LiteracyFirst-Grade is a reading year! You will be amazed at the progress during our year. Each day your first-grader will participate in small and large group reading instruction, practice their independent reading, and work on their writing skills. We will learn and apply many reading strategies for decoding unknown words and for reading comprehension. Be sure to practice sight words on a daily basis. By knowing these words your first-grader will be able to read and understand more challenging stories. Each night your first-grader will bring home a baggie book for reading practice. This will need to be returned the next day or when the longer chapter book is completed. Plan on your child exploring new worlds and finding meaningful opportunities to grow.
